Letter Challenge Day 2

Day 2: Your crush

Dear Name Crush Number Four,

Well, I’m not sure if your boy toy ever suspected that I like you, and I’m likewise not sure if he would be so crass as to tell you if he did find out. Still, I think that somehow, you know, despite my inane attempts to conceal the fact – a task doomed to failure, as I am anything but discrete. I hope the knowledge gives you some sense of pride to boost your already inflated ego. Not that it’s too bad, I assure you; your mock arrogance is quite amusing, and doesn’t hide the fact that you're not as cocky as you look.

Why do I like you? I think part of the reason is your hair and your eyes. But it’s not what’s on the outside that makes me like a guy (Trust me, Cat despairs over this. She says that I seriously go for the personality, not the looks. I think this is her way of not approving of some of my past crushes). Mostly I think it’s you, who you are inside, the way you act around me that drew me in. Nonchalant, but not crude. Simply brilliant, but humble (at least, when you’re not pretending to be all-important). So very, very smart, and funny, and clever. That’s what I like in a guy.

I don’t think you know how much you hurt me though. The littlest things do – you don’t mean to, I’m sure, but you say and do things that to you may seem like tiny, natural gestures but to me feel like dismissals. I can forgive you, though. “Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind; and therefore is wing’d Cupid painted blind…And therefore  is love said to be a child, because in choice he is so oft beguiled” (A Midsummer Night’s Dream I, i, 234). It is the curse of a person in love to forgive all of his or her love’s sins. Not that your dismissals are sins, per se. Just a quote. Ah, Shakespeare, how you read us so well! (I am such a nerd...)

I know you don’t think of me the way I think of you. No fear, though. I’m not going to make a move on you anytime soon. It’s only a passing crush – I hope.

Fondly,
Stephanie
